Event:

SA Chamber Connects: Protect your Business, Protect yourself

Description: October 16th is an evening not to be missed!  Two important topics to understand rather than be tripped up on.

For members, it is the meeting of the year, a time to be involved  -  the SACC AGM will be held before the Chamber Connect evening commences.

The speakers for this Chamber Connects event are covering two seriously important topics for both you and your business. Bring business and fellow South African colleagues to learn from experts in their fields.

Protect your Business (Regardless of Brexit) - James Castro - Edwards
There is a lot of hype and noise (and for good reason) around the new Data Protection (GDPR) laws due out next year. There is an added complexity that many of us have in that we trade with SA or other non EU countries which means our actions may not be protected by GDPR or could possibly be more challenged by the new regulation. As a small business, it is easier to get into trouble on Data Protection than a bigger company where they have the infrastructure and various resources enabling them to invest and then deploy appropriate policies and procedures.

Our speaker, James Castro-Edwards, Partner at Wedlake Bell, specialises in data protection and is the author of the recently published book 'EU General Data Protection Regulation: A Guide to the New Law'. The Law Society will be in attendance and copies of the book will be available for purchase on the night.

James will address the requirements that need to be met by business and particularly explain why South Africa linked trading or business needs to be aware of the compliance requirements under the new Act.

Protect Yourself (Regardless of Brexit) - Charmaine Hast
If you are a South African residing in the UK, married to a South African, were married in South Africa etc. you should be aware of the laws that could impact decisions you take in your personal life (i.e getting married, divorced or investing in a business).

These laws can impact differently depending on your status in the country and the timing of these events. How best to learn from a South African born solicitor, Charmaine Hast, who is an attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa as well as an English solicitor?

Charmaine is best placed to assist South Africans when they are challenged - usually when things have gone wrong.

Find out how to protect your wealth and future earnings.
