SACC Walking Tour with Dawn Denton

Description: Please join the SACC and Dawn Denton for a walking tour of the City of London, rain or shine, on Wednesday 25th October at 6:30pm starting at The Monument to explore some of the treasures of this remarkable city - fire, finance, faith and fables - the fantastic Square Mile. The Great Fire of London started not too far from The Monument and we are able to follow the tracks of the fire all the way to St Pauls and along the way, cross paths with Charles Dickens, Pocahontas, Dick Whittington, Romans, saints and traders, which all come together within the ancient city walls of the Square Mile of London.

This will be followed by dinner at Vivat Bacchus where tables have been reserved for us. Please note that although the walking tour is free, the dinner is paid for by each individual based on what they eat and drink.

Dawn Denton has been in the UK for 22 years - Nelspruit born, Joburg raised, Potchefstroom schooled, and Pretoria and Joburg educated. In London she taught, took tour groups around Europe with Contiki for 10 seasons, ran the Contiki customer service centre, trained as a London City guide, and returned to teaching. But it was when she took her A-Level students to South Africa to teach sport in the townships that she refuelled her soul and realised how disconnected she was with her African culture. She went back on the road as a tour director in the UK, Ireland and the Balkans and moved to a new home in Somerset. Dawn started building a South African community in South West England by reaching out on social media, and the Celebrate Southern Africa market was born in 2016. By 2017 it had over 50 stalls and 3,000 Southern African and British visitors from around the country. The brand is now growing to include an online magazine celebrating all things and people Southern African, with loads of exciting plans for 2018. Dawn runs a local event website in Frome, Somerset, she delivers Facebook for business courses online and in workshops; with customer service and other business courses in the pipeline. She writes for magazines, newspapers and is a published writer; she blogs about history and business, sells costume jewellery online and will be speaking about Facebook at the Wells Festival of Literature in October.
