Event:

South Africa's Business Process Services (BPS) Sector

Description: Members of the South African Chamber of Commerce are invited to join Rob Davies - SA Minister of Trade and Industry, members of the Industry Association, and BPESA in a 2 hour opportunity workshop to be held at South Africa House on Thursday the 13th December from 10am to 12pm followed by a lunch.

The South African team will present the BPS Value proposition, unpack the revised BPS incentive model and address any questions about the commercial opportunities open to you in the business process services sector. We will also share case studies that demonstrate the success of operating delivery centres from South Africa to service clients and customers in the UK and elsewhere in English language speaking markets.

South Africa has a well-established Business Process Services (BPS) Sector, employing more than 228,000 people providing services across the retail, financial services, telecommunications, education, healthcare, legal, ICT and other verticals. While the domestic market segment has experienced sluggish growth (less than 1% CAGR) over the past few years, the export market has experienced rapid growth at between 22% and 25% CAGR since 2014 to the point that it now employs in excess of 40,000 people and is set to double in size over the next five years.

With a strong value proposition, South Africa has won the Global Sourcing Association award for best global outsourcing destination in 2016 and 2018 and has been rated as the 2nd  most favourable offshore location by global BPO executives in 2018 (Research: Ryan Strategic Advisory 2018). The United Kingdom makes up more than 60% of South Africa's BPS export work, for good reason. There is a strong cost motivator with operating cost savings of between 40% and 60% to be realised, balanced with a consistently high quality of customer experience. With UK companies under pressure to increase productivity, to reduce operating costs and mitigate Brexit risks on operational profitability and reliability, South Africa offers an extremely viable solution that can be deployed with a range of different business models including partnering, outsourced service delivery, offshore captive operations and hybrids of the various models.

The South African Government has demonstrated its continued support for this high growth sector by committing a new and significant investment in incentives and other forms of financial and non-financial support for companies willing to do business from South Africa. This in addition to the significant investment made by government in the sector since 2007.
