Life is Wonderful: Mandela's Unsung Heroes

Description: Life is Wonderful: Mandela's Unsung Heroes is an Award-winning documentary celebrating the centenary of Nelson Mandela's birth with a look back at the Rivonia Trial, which led to Mandela's imprisonment.

Sir Nick Stadlen interviews many of those involved at the time, including three of Mandela's codefendants and three of the defence lawyers, and tells the inspiring story of their  courage, self sacrifice, integrity and commitment to end the evil system of apartheid no matter what the cost to them.

To celebrate Mandela month and honour Denis Goldberg, Rivonia Defendant #3, who died in April 2020, join Brand South Africa for a free online screening of the film which will be followed by a Question and Answer discussion on Tuesday, 21 July 2020 at 6:00pm British Summer Time (7:00pm CAT).

Sir Nick Stadlen, the Filmmaker, who is a retired English High Court Judge, will be a Discussant and you can engage with him on the film, its messages and its relevance to your life today and to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The film won the award for Best International Film at the Encounters South African Documentary Film Festival.

Through ground-breaking and never-before-seen interviews, Sir Nick throws light on the extraordinary people involved in the Rivonia Trial, the court case that changed South Africa. Their stories and the stories of the anti-apartheid struggle show the power of people's ideals to enable them to create the world as it should be and not to accept the world as it is.

The film lasts 88 minutes and will be followed by a discussion with the film-maker Sir Nick Stadlen, Mr John Battersby (Chair of the Canon Collins Education Trust and SACC Director) and Dr. Elinor Sisulu, a writer and Human Rights activist.

The session will be chaired by the Brand South Africa UK Country Head, Pumela Salela.
