Event:

Unleashing the South African Economy

Description: Infrastructure represents one of South Africa's most pressing crises. Investment and construction has not kept up with the demands of a growing population and economy. Ageing and poorly maintained infrastructure represents a significant social, economic and environmental threat, impacts the delivery of basic services and restricts economic growth.

It remains to be seen how the establishment of the Government of National Unity will impact infrastructure development, but the introduction of fresh faces and new ideas is generating a tide of positivity and growing enthusiasm to make a difference and get things done. Infrastructure projects have the potential to create jobs and build much-needed frameworks to unleash pent-up economic growth and spread prosperity.

To explore how this might work in practice, we will be talking to a panel of experts from government and the private sector, including the new Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, who hopes that with new leadership and improved relationships with the business sector he can unlock investment and get vital projects up and running. More speakers will be announced soon.

Success in this area will have an impact for years to come on South Africa's economic growth, sustainability, security and competiveness in Africa and the world.

If this is a topic that interests or concerns you, then you are very welcome to join the Gauteng Chapter of the South African Chamber of Commerce UK at the residence of HM Government's Trade Commissioner for Africa, from 17h30 to 19h30 on Thursday, 26 September 2024.
