Beyond State Capture: Building an economy based on equality, accountability and sustainability

Description: In this South African Chamber webinar, we will explore how accountable government and ending a culture of state capture and corruption could set the country on a growth trajectory as foundation for a more just and equitable society and how the skills and experience of South Africans abroad could play a role.

Nick Binedell is a professor of Strategic Leadership at the Gordon Institute of Business Science. He was the founding Dean of the school. His interest and experience is mainly in South Africa.  He has a PhD from the University of Washington and has been involved in both the business education arena and broader civic matters for a number of years. This includes working in the private sector, civil society organisations as well as with government. He has been actively involved since the onset of COVID 19 in a variety of government and civil society initiatives.

Mark Heywood is a social justice activist in South Africa. He studied at Balliol College, Oxford University, before returning to South Africa in 1989 to work with the ANC. He has co-founded several prominent Organisations that work on health and human rights, including the Treatment Action Campaign and SECTION27. He has published extensively on issues to do with health, law, civil society and human rights and is currently the editor of Maverick Citizen, an online news source focusing on civil society activism.
