Wealth Preservation & Wildlife Conservation

We invite you to join us for an event spearheaded by the South African Chamber of Commerce UK and hosted by Standard Bank in IOM and Jersey, and at Carey Olsen in St Peter Port, Guernsey.

The keynote speakers will be from Tax Consulting South Africa, Xpatweb and Rewilding Africa. The common theme of the evening is conservation; of our personal wealth through unraveling the complex world of taxation for South Africans living abroad, and of our common natural heritage and wilderness - which is vital to the tourism industry, a significant contributor to the South African economy.

There are very limited spaces available so please book early.

Attendance is free and the dates and venues are as follows:

Isle of Man: Monday 18 July from 18:00 to 21:00 at Standard Bank Standard Bank House, One Circular Road, Douglas IM1 1SB

Guernsey: Wednesday 20 July from 18:00 to 21:00 at Carey Olsen, Carey House, Les Banques, St Peter Port, Guernsey, GY1 4BZ Channel Islands

Presentations will be short and succinct, providing a multi-faceted overview of the issues being covered. The speakers will remain with us for the networking so you will be able to discuss specific issues with them or their colleagues.

Wealth Preservation

•  The SA Budget 2022/23, just announced - Impact on Global South Africans & Key Discussion on SARS International Audit Strategies
by Jerry Botha, Managing Partner of Tax Consulting SA.

•  Money Remittance & Special Reserve Bank Approvals, Immigration Strategies & Retention of South African Passport
by Marisa Jacobs, Partner: International Mobility & Treasury at Xpatweb.

•  SARS Non-Resident Tax Status Confirmation Letter 101 – The What, Why & How
by Thomas Lobban, Legal Manager for Cross Border Taxation at Tax Consulting SA.

The UK is a longstanding trade, economic and financial partner to South Africa, a country where many South Africans live and work, scattered from London to Scotland and for many historic reasons, also the three Crown Dependencies.

It is important for South Africans to understand changes that may impact them due to the ratification in the Budget Speech 2022/23 of intensified tax scrutiny on the country’s wealthy and the establishment of SARS’ High Net Worth Unit in 2021.

The presentations will single out important announcements impacting HNW and global South Africans, discuss what we are seeing from SARS, such as new audit strategies, an increase in rejections of Tax Non-Resident Confirmation Letters and other best practice strategies to ensure compliance and preserve global wealth.

Our experience evidences that many South African expats remain uncertain of their obligation to SARS.

Wildlife Conservation

•  Rewilding Africa, Land & Conservation Awareness, doing the right thing for the people and encouraging tourism
by James Arnott, Director of Rewilding Africa which is being led by a number of prominent UK based business leaders, along with Grant Fowlds, renowned animal conservationist and author.

James will share with us what the Rewilding Africa project is achieving and how it is making a difference to the land and its people using the example of their current flagship project, Loziba Wildlife Reserve, which is in the heart of the proposed Thaka Valley Communal Wild Conservancy in Zululand.

Tourism is a key economic contributor to the economy, and the quality of the South African game viewing surpasses most in the world.
