Building a Wealth Creation Ecosystem - London Business School's Enterprise and Private Capital Model

Description: You are cordially invited to join us for the next webinar focussing on Wealth Creation in South Africa which will take place at 11:00 (UK Time) 12:00 (SA time) on Tuesday, June 11th.

Entrepreneurship provides a vital stepping stone from the informal economy into mainstream economic activity, of particular importance in the South African context where the informal sector is massive, and economic development is critical to transforming the lives of millions of people.

Uplifting the lives of South Africans is a core objective in the Chamber’s mission, and the Wealth Creation Project is an evolving initiative searching for ways to leverage our international networks of investors to boost entrepreneurship in South Africa.

In this webinar we'll be in conversation with Jane Khedair, who is Executive Director at the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Private Capital at London Business School, and Founder Director of Enterprise 100, the angel network that has been operating out of London Business School since 1999, providing early-stage funding for many of the School’s entrepreneurial ventures from LBS alumni and their networks.

Over the years, she has successfully replicated the ‘100’ model across other academic institutions within the UK and is considered a leading figure within the UK’s private investment ecosystem.

South African Universities have had considerable success in connecting investors with their academic inventors and spinning out companies through, for example, the University Technology Fund.

SACC UK has been exploring the LBS model as a template for how South African Universities could leverage their and SA Chamber networks as potential angel investors. What lessons can we learn from the London Business School experience in this area, and how replicable is the model to the South African context?

The webinar will also be an opportunity to gain perspective into Jane’s experience in developing a suite of resources to support aspiring founders, from strategic planning to delivery and fundraising for growth.

Her initiatives in this area sit today at the core of the School’s offering for early-stage ventures that are available to the London Business School community all over the world and run out of both its London and Dubai locations.

These include the Entrepreneur’s Journey series, various mentorship programmes, and summer internship opportunities for those curious to explore start-up life. The School’s Incubator has evolved into a £3m programme for up to 11 teams each year, by developing a support package for the Incubator businesses and access to a full range of professional experts.
