Event:

Jersey Chapter Launch

Description: South Africans in Jersey, please take the opportunity to join us in person for the long-awaited launch of Jersey Chapter of the South African Chamber of Commerce (UK) - the second of SA Chamber Chapters to be launched in Crown Dependencies following the successful launch of the Isle of Man, complementing Ireland and three SA Chapters and mainland UK Chapters.

The launch will take place at the Pomme d’Or Hotel on Wednesday the 19th of October. Networking begins from 5:30pm and the launch will take place at 6pm.

We are pleased to have the support of the Government of Jersey, Jersey Finance, Digital Jersey and the Jersey Chamber of Commerce who have all offered their support and friendship to the SACC Jersey Chapter along with the corporate sponsors for this evening who include Alexforbes Offshore, Standard Bank, Carey Olsen, Rock Accounting, Hatstone Global Services, Digital Jersey and the Little Jersey Biltong Company.

The concept of a Jersey Chapter has been developing for well over a year now and we are pleased to build off the support of one of the Chamber's Strategic Members, Standard Bank (and it’s Jersey office) and welcome corporates, small business owners, individuals and all fans of Springbok Rugby, Biltong and Potjies. The event is aimed to draw together the broader South African community on the island and begin a conversation with prospective members to share what value the Chamber can offer and understand the needs of the local business to further tailor our offering and engagement.

We shall share our greater global vision of SA Chamber networks and how we can provide relevant networking opportunities locally, regionally, and internationally giving you insights on fostering global trade and access to and support of the SA market which many of us still have ties to on a business and or personal level.

We have a bumper line up of speakers who will speak under the overarching theme: The Age of Uncertainty: A Leaders' guide to finding possibility in the unknown.

Speakers include:

  • Sharon Constançon: “The Why behind the Chamber”: in her capacity as Chair of the SA Chamber in the UK
  • Nick Binedell: “SA, A political knife edge”: speaking in his capacity as founder of GIBS and strategy professor, he is also on the Advisory Board of the Chamber (Dialling in)
  • Douglas Kruger: “Strategic Rule Breaking”: a new arrival to Jersey (1 year in) and professional speaker and writer (regularly feauturing in the JEP now) who will explore and share his experience as a new arrival to the island
  • Graeme Smith: Ex SA Cricket Captain and Director of Cricket SA, working on the SA T20 league linked to the IPL on “leadership and the upside of uncertainty” and reflecting on his own time spent in the UK

One of the motivations for launching the Jersey Chapter is to encourage Charitable Giving to causes we as a philanthropic island community care about - Education being the core focus. To that end, we are asking you to please support this campaign set up to fund bursaries for three South African university students: https://feenix.org/campaign/90.

Feenix was launched in June 2017 as a response to the #FeesMustFall movement that spread across campuses in South Africa during 2015 and 2016. This movement highlighted the extremely high cost of tertiary education and the impact financial stress has on student success rates. More about the Charity will be explained at the launch.

We look forward to welcoming you!
