Event:

Creating an Inclusive Economy in South Africa: Policies for Job Creation

Description: Economic growth in South Africa over the past twenty years has failed to generate the widespread job creation required to alleviate entrenched poverty and inequality. In 2015 the unemployment rate reached 25%, and the figure is even higher among young people. Creating jobs is a government priority and a key target of the National Development Plan, but it is a deep rooted structural problem that will continue to dominate political discussion and will be a key issue in this year’s municipal elections.

At this London launch of How South Africa Works: And Must Do Better, the authors will discuss the findings of their research, sharing insights into the South African labour market. The panel will also discuss the decisive action required from government and industry to build a competitive and inclusive economy in South Africa.
