Breakfast Indaba with Andrew Teacher - Civic crowdfunding: profiting from engagement

Description:
Join Andrew Teacher, founder of Blackstock PR, as he discusses the role that civic crowdfunding can play in funding your small business.

Andrew is a former journalist who began his career at the NME, covering rock music, before working for an array of newspapers and the BBC. Going on to work with Oxfam, where he helped create the Oxjam Festival, he subsequently worked in Government at the Department for Trade & Industry, before joining lobby group, the British Property Federation.

Working with the real estate sector as its principle press spokesman and lobbyist, Andrew reformed the way the BPF was viewed and gained a deep insight into all areas of the property sector. He gained an extensive insight into planning and the built environment working alongside major developers such as Argent, Land Securities and Westfield, together with investors and fund managers.

As a regular face on the BBC and Sky News commentating on economics and housing issues, Andrew has overseen numerous policy papers, which have informed policy over the last six years.

He then joined airport owner BAA, owners of Heathrow, as the group’s media director, focusing much attention on Heathrow and its other airports, some of which have since been sold. Overseeing all areas of its external communication, Andrew received broad acclaim for his handling of several international crisis events.

After leaving Heathrow, Andrew set up Blackstock, a strategy and communications consutancy, in 2012 advising an array of investment, real estate, aviation and technology clients.

The firm delivers discrete financial, corporate and crisis communications support and strategic planning for a number of large corporates. And on the media relations and PR side, Blackstock supports a growing number of businesses in the property and technology sectors.

During this same period, working closely with its founder Chris Gourlay, Andrew helped launch Spacehive in 2012 following months of preparatory work and has spent three years as its policy director helping establish the concept of civic crowdfunding with much success. Spacehive is widely renowned the world over for promoting a new way of getting great ideas done and the business has recently completed new finance raising with plans to further invest in its platform across the UK.

What's great about working with other South Africans? They speak your language. They are friendly, clear, honest and direct in their business dealings and, like you, know what hard work means - and they have fun doing it. You and your business need people like that – people you can trust. The event is aimed at South African or businesses owned by South Africans, those who do business in South Africa or employ South Africans, and who simply like South Africa and its people.

The Breakfast Indaba will offer a one-minute business presentation by each business present, a presentation on educational and other opportunities by the Chamber, and a special offer to attendees who want to join the South African Chamber of Commerce. All this for £15.00. To have exclusive rights to present your chosen profession/industry
