Developments in SA and Geopolitical Uncertainty: Implications for Investors, Corporates and Governments

Description: Join Aileen Campbell and Mohamed Cassimjee as they provide an overview of the present shifting geopolitical environment and the heightened geoeconomic risks. They will reflect on the implications for governments based on some of the non- aligned positions taken and the reactions and actions by major powers. They will also look at some of the consequences for governments and corporates based on the present global environment.

Mohamed Cassimjee 

Mohamed was a senior diplomat for the South African foreign service for over 26 years. He served as Deputy Ambassador to Germany from 2016-2020, and prior to that served abroad in Washington DC, Uganda and Senegal.

He has served in various positions at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation in Pretoria including: Director of the African Union; Germany/Nordics; Latin America/Caribbean States and the European Union. Before joining the foreign service, he was a practicing advocate (barrister) in South Africa.

As a foreign affairs analyst his focus is on the present state of the geopolitical environment and implications for governments and corporates. He is a mentor at the Blavatnik School of Government and a Research Associate of the Centre for African Studies at Oxford University and is active in politics in North Oxfordshire, where he lives with his family.

Aileen Campbell, Adviceworx, CIO

Aileen joined Adviceworx in 2014.  The Adviceworx framework offers independent advisory businesses the opportunity to partner for growth, without foregoing management control, operational independence and commercial ownership.

Aileen has a wealth of experience in Investment Management. Her career in Financial Services started in 1999 at the Association of Unit Trusts (AUT).  Aileen then joined Investec Private Bank Wealth Management in 2003 as Brand Manager, overseeing the marketing and brand strategy of the LISP Platform. Aileen moved into investment management when she was appointed as Head of Investment Strategy for both global and local markets, a position that she held for 7 years. During this time Aileen played a pivotal role in driving the investment process for ultra-high net worth clients with assets under management of R20bn. 

Aileen was head hunted to ABSA Wealth & Investments in February 2011 and was appointed as Head: Product Strategy, Distribution Support and Technical Marketing. Her main area of focus was to identify appropriate investment products to reflect the group’s investment philosophy, investment house view and tactical views across all distribution channels.
