Herbert Smith Freehills is delighted to invite you to celebrate the firm's Africa practice and our commitment to multiculturalism. Africa Day continues to be celebrated globally and is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on 25 May 1963.

We will be hearing from Herbert Smith Freehills Partner, Martin Kavanagh (Co-Head, Africa Practice) on our growing Africa Practice and the launch of our new Johannesburg office.

We will also be hearing from international poet, playwright, performer, graphic artist & designer, Inua Ellams who will be discussing his upcoming play, 'Barber Shop Chronicles'. For generations, African men have gathered in barber shops to discuss the world. These are places where the banter can be barbed and the truth is always telling. This is his third play at the National Theatre, and Ellams will share his experiences whilst researching barber shops in London, Johannesburg, Harare, Kampala, Lagos and Accra.

Finally we will be hearing from David Butler, CEO of the South African Chamber of Commerce, is an entrepreneur and crisis and risk management expert with extensive experience advising companies investing and operating in high-risk frontier markets across the Middle East and Africa with a specific focus on the SADC region and South Africa – a country he is passionate about.
